Good things are happening to Indian sports. First it was Avinabh Bindra, and then it is Indian Football that came to the limelight.
Riding on a Sunil Chhetri hat-trick and a solitary strike by skipper Baichung Bhutia, India thrashed defending champions Tajikistan 4-1 in the final of AFC Challenge Cup football tournament and qualified for the Asian Cup after 24 years.
By winning Asia's second tier tournament after a 4-1 thrashing of defending champions Tajikistan, India qualified for the 2011 Asian Cup. AIFF also supported the team by sending them to Portugal and arranging friendlier against Chinese Taipei and Malaysia as part of preparations for the tournament.
I hope Football Authority in India will give full support for developing football academies in the country now onwards. And, those will, in turn, be responsible for another football resurgence of the country. It is very sad that the football authority has to work so hard for bringing the lost glory, rather than working on it (in time) and getting ahead of all other Asian countries. Anyways, the time has come when we really can leave a footmark again in Asian football. 3 years are remaining for the AFC Cup. Build a strong young team and go all out. We are there to cheer for our national team.
Every Indian football lover's dream is to see India playing in World Cup and be one of the best competitive team in the world. Will this dream comes true ?
Hope it will happen.
Keep up the great work team...
